What is the Mann Family Research Foundation?

The name is Robert Mann of the Virginia Colony. I am told that my father, also a Robert, came to the colony from England in 1636 and I was born here in 1642... or was it 1656... hard to remember. It was, after all, some 360 years ago. Mother is currently lost to history.

Around 1670 Isabel Griffin and I were married and she bore us six children, four boys and two girls. From this fruit, I have heard, over 2700 people are descended.

On 10 April 1712 I passed from this earth which has made writing this somewhat difficult.

The Mann Family Research Foundation is a small, by invitation, group that is in the process of documenting the descendants of Robert Mann, 1642-1712, of Virginia. As of this writing over 2700 individuals, some linked by marriage, have been found. In the process both written evidence and DNA have been used. This is not to say that there are only 2700 descendants or that all so far found are correct... this is a work in progress. Submissions by members are reviewed by a "board" and are accepted or rejected based on the strength of documentation.

The MFRF is currently trying to incorporate as a non-profit. All "board" members are volunteers, no one is paid. As a non-profit, contributions to the MFRF would be tax deductible. These contributions would be used to support outside the MFRF research such as DNA testing with the hope of finding links around the world and  particularly in England.

If you or someone in your family has the surname Mann, has been DNA tested and have the yDNA haplogroup T1a, also written as T-M70, or simply feel you have data that may be of use to the Foundation and wish to particapate, please contact us. This site is currently under construction with no idea as to when, if ever, it will be finished. Hopefully,  finished or not, it will soon take it's place at mannfamilyresearchfoundation.com hosted by GoDaddy.
